How we Work (Methodology)

1. A first visit to the place, we are planning to create a garden, is our first step.  The dream of the owners about the place is discussed, including the plants they prefer and the style of garden they imagine.  We photograph the space from every angle and take all appropriate measurements. Aesthetical and practical details are talked about, solutions and alternatives are offered in order to offer an end result that both aesthetically and practically matches the owners’ wishes.
2. Next step is an overall study, including plant species, plantation design (way of planting, spaces between plants, etc.) as well as the design of any relevant construction. More specifically, we offer:
  a. Plantation design (autocad)
  b. Irrigation plan (autocad)
  c. Architectural design of any technical constructions.
  d. Lighting design and construction when applicable.
  e. Plant selection (species, quality, dimensions), grass (appropriate mix) and proposals on pot design (ceramic, porcelain, zinc, etc) and garden furniture.
  f. Final budget appraisal.
3. A well laid out time-table of the application of the study and all constructions.
4. Supervision on the ground application of the above studies.
During construction, either Evangelia or another experienced member of our team is always present.

BASIC DESIGN PRINCIPLES

During our study and the project supervision, the ecological conditions of the area (microclimate, topography, soil type and natural vegetation) are mostly taken into consideration. Each project has its own particularities and character, while the principles of unity, functionality, simplicity and scale are seriously taken into account.
The specific character of every landscape and its surrounding area is of the greatest importance during all our landscape studies and in the design of different constructions.
The functional element of each space, is greatly considered in each garden design, while the plants are aesthetically and symbolically related to the main design – composition.
Plant selection, as well as their numbers are based on the uses of each area, the garden usage, visitation frequency, its size and surface area, and its future preservation plan.
Selected plants could be either local or imported.
The first are selected, because of their ability to easily adjust in each area’s specific ecological conditions, thus limiting any alteration of local natural landscape characteristics.
In cases that imported species (alien to the area) are selected, they should be acclimatized to the local microclimate.
During the garden establishment (construction and planting), the following are taken into consideration:
  a. Required season
  b. Soil preparation
  c. Planting design
  d. Any plant support requirements
Finally we allow for expert advice to the gardeners regarding the preservation of the garden.
